About 11,000 new and used auto dealers operate in Canada with combined annual revenue of about $90 billion. The industry is highly fragmented: most companies are independently owned. AutoCanada, one of the largest companies, has about 20 individual dealerships. Car dealership sales represent about 20 percent of total Canadian retail sales.
