The Canadian cement, concrete, and construction material industry includes about 1,300 establishments with combined annual revenue of more than $9 billion. The industry is dominated by large foreign companies, such as Lafarge (France), Holcim (Switzerland), St Mary’s Cement Group (a subsidiary of Brazil-based Votorantim Cimentos), and Lehigh Inland Cement (a subsidiary of Germany-based HeidelbergCement). Domestic companies include BURNCO, Atlas Concrete, and Beton Provincial. Most Canadian companies are small: over 95 percent have fewer than 100 employees.
