About 20,000 licensed dentists operate in Canada, generating about $12 billion in revenue. Around 90 percent of Canadian dentists are in private practice; about half work in solo private practices. Less than 10 percent work in practices with more than five dentists. Less than 5 percent are employed in academic, public health, or military settings. Dental offices and clinics are located throughout the country, although they’re concentrated in major population centers. Large dental firms include Altima Dental Centres and Lapointe Dental Centers.
