About 19,000 licensed dentists operate in Canada, generating $10 billion in dental services, and about 7 percent of total Canadian health expenditures. Over 90 percent of Canadian dentists are in private practice; about half work in solo private practices, while less than 10 percent work in practices with more than five dentists. Less than 5 percent are employed in academic, public health, or military settings. Dental offices and clinics are located throughout the country, although they’re concentrated in major population centers.
