Pharmaceutical Distribution Industry Focus

The pharmaceutical distribution industry consists of wholesale distributors of branded and generic patent drugs, over-the-counter (OTC) medications, surgical and medical supplies and equipment, and in some cases, personal care products. Major companies include McKesson, Cardinal Health, and AmerisourceBergen. In addition to distributing products, large companies often offer supply chain management and other support services for hospitals, pharmacies, and doctors’ offices. Small companies tend to focus on rural areas, independent community pharmacies, or the distribution of drugs that have special handling requirements.
