Nova Scotia Province Profile

Nova Scotia to receive funding for project to increase employment opportunities for women in nontraditional occupations; housing starts and sales forecasted to decline in 2009, then recover in 2010 while home prices steadily increase.

• Province job growth fell 0.9% in September 2009 from a year ago; national job growth fell 2.1%.
• Province unemployment averaged 9.5% in September 2009; the national average was 8.4%.
• Average weekly earnings rose 1.8% to $734 in July 2009 from a year ago.
• Provincial revenue rose 0.5% in FY 2009 from the previous year.
• Exports fell 26.8% to $2.4 billion in the first seven months of 2009 from a year ago.
